Workers are concerned about whether artificial intelligence may render their occupations obsolete across a wide range of sectors. Three AI specialists were asked if they thought AI will replace humans in the workforce in the near future, and all said that while these worries are legitimate, humans are still highly valued.

According to certain research, individuals still prefer to get more individualised help from staff members than from artificial intelligence (AI) systems. For example, people would rather get customer care from a real person than a chatbot.

In 2019, CGS, a business applications, outsourcing, and learning company, conducted a poll of 1,000 consumers and found that 86% of respondents stated they preferred engaging with a human person over a chatbot. 80% of customers still prefer human connection in 2023, according to a poll conducted by Invoca, a business that employs artificial intelligence (AI) in call monitoring and conversational analytics products.

Will AI Replace Me in My Career?
The human touch is still important, despite AI’s rapid acceptance, according to an email from Cory Halbardier, chief operating officer of ad conversion platform Blazeo.

“For example, chatbots—automated tools are essential, especially for small businesses that lack the time or resources to handle leads around-the-clock,” Halbardier stated. Many consumers won’t get the empathy, comprehension, and communication they require if there isn’t a human person operating these products. That also frequently determines whether consumers become dissatisfied and move on to the next alternative, or whether they continue to evaluate a service.”

He went on to say that for AI technology to advance and function at all, human direction is still necessary. Halbardier declared, “They’re not going to replace live humans anytime soon.”

Reade Taylor, the founder of Cyber Command LLC, an IT services company, and a former IBM internet security systems engineer, has expertise integrating new technology into corporate processes, which has informed his opinion on the impact of AI on jobs. He sees AI’s promise in the cybersecurity space not just as a disruptor but also as a driver for opening up new doors and boosting human productivity.

Taylor stated in an email that while “AI is certainly reshaping jobs, it’s important to distinguish between job displacement and job transformation.” “For instance, in cybersecurity, AI has replaced laborious jobs like keeping an eye on network traffic anomalies, freeing up human analysts to concentrate on more intricate threat assessments and long-term security planning.”

According to Taylor, this change is giving IT workers greater responsibility and increasing the impact and strategic nature of their job. He claims that rather than taking employment away, AI is enhancing human labour by giving workers the means to combat the growing number and complexity of cyberattacks.

Which Jobs Will AI Take Over?
According to AI expert Regina Grogan, the vocations that AI will replace are “simple, menial jobs” that require simple data input and problem-solving skills. This is because, as of right now, AI is unable to match human inventiveness and ingenuity in solving very complicated issues.

According to Grogan, “AI models struggle to take many competing factors and ideas into account; the nuance isn’t there.” “Many positions, especially in the white-collar industry, need a great deal of judgement, subtlety, and decision-making. There, AI performs poorly.

Reade proposed industries where AI can outperform humans at tasks in terms of efficiency and error-rate. These industries will likely be the ones that AI replaces. He reiterated that losing a job isn’t usually the result of this.

Will Programmers Be Replaced by AI?
According to some experts, programmers are especially susceptible to artificial intelligence. However, Grogan makes the point that artificial intelligence finds it difficult to generate work of the same calibre as human programmers.

“I see a lot of problems when I see code written by AI,” the woman remarked. As of right now, inserting harmful attacks into the code and huge language models in general is simple. Therefore, from a security perspective, copying and pasting AI-generated code from the internet into your codebase is usually not a good idea. This is because malicious code assaults can compromise your company’s security in addition to being a logistical risk.

Grogan thinks AI might generate professions focused on secure code and secure code review, rather than replacing programming jobs. “This is because people need to prioritise their organization’s security if they are going to use AI-generated code,” the speaker explained. “If businesses are going to embrace AI, they have to take the proper precautions,” noted the surge in AI-related hacks.

Grogan also believes that AI will likely generate a lot more employment in data security and privacy as people get increasingly worried about the security and privacy of some of these applications.

Reade concurred that programmers won’t likely be completely replaced by AI. Rather, he believes that it will alter the nature of programming professions, necessitating that programmers adjust and work

The need for qualified programmers who can create algorithms, enhance AI systems, and incorporate moral AI usage into software development is growing, according to Reade, even if AI could automate certain programming duties.
